Consular registry
A consular officer or authorized employee shall enter the data of a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania residing in a foreign state who applies for the performance of consular functions into the Consular Procedures Management Information System.
At the request of a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania residing in a foreign state, the data shall also be entered into the Consular Procedures Management Information System.
These data shall be used solely for the purpose of consular assistance in the cases referred to in Article 14 of the Consular Statute and, at the request of the citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, for the purposes specified for the exercise of consular functions.
Consular registration is useful because the consular office can:
- Provide consular assistance to the citizen in the event of a natural disaster, catastrophe, terrorist attack, mass riot, war and armed conflict;
Consular registration is not necessarily linked to declaration of residence:
- consular registration is also carried out when the citizen has not declared his/her departure from Lithuania, but his/her place of residence is considered a foreign state according to the Civil Code;
- the actual residence of the citizen in a foreign country is always indicated.
A citizen may always submit a free-form request to the consular post to delete his consular registration data. In the event of a change in the data, the citizen may contact the consular post to request details of his consular registration.
