Šiauliai is also an industrial city. Šiauliai and industry have been closely associated for a long time. The first industries in Šiauliai date the 2nd half of the 18th century and were established under the rule of A. Tyzenhauz. This association remains relevant today as well: the city hosts well known enterprises which both operate successfully and kindly welcome tourists! You are welcome to take excursions/tastings in the museum of Šiauliai confectionery factory “Rūta”, making Šiauliai famous for 100 years now as well as in the oldest brewery in Lithuania “Gubernija” which recently celebrated its 350th anniversary. 

Traditional and exclusive expositions at the museums – from fossils, reflections of the life in manor, butterflies to American Indians or basketball... Sophisticated manors of Šiauliai Region revive through expositions, exhibitions, festivals and entertaining educational activities. Diversity of crafts in the traditional centers of crafts, workshops of artists allow to experience a pleasure of creation. As regards culinary traditions, Šiauliai Region will undoubtedly surprise everyone with the exclusiveness of its culinary heritage. Traditional dishes and recipes, beer from the barrels as well as food making secrets passed from generation to generation are the major ingredients of the cuisine of the Land of the Sun.

Pakruojis District is famous for the biggest complex of manor buildings in Lithuania – the Manor of Pakruojis, as well as for its dolomite quarries, long and deep-traditions of brewing, cuisine of the nobility. The visitors are welcome to visit the Museum of Pakruojis Region “Žiemgala”, famous for its archaeological, ethnographical and historical expositions revealing the links with Latvia.

Akmenė District is famous for its Venta Regional Park and Kamanos State Nature Reserve. Venta Regional Park is unique for its geological structure, the visitors can explore the mysterious Jurassic cliffs, touch the remains of animals from the Dinosaur Ages – fossils, admire the landscapes of outcrops. Kamanos State Nature Reserve covers the largest swamp area in the North Lithuania, reflecting the diversity of wild nature.

Religious sites – the Hill of Crosses, pilgrimage routes, unique monuments, representing different architectural periods, monasteries known as oases of spiritual tranquility– would find a place in the heart of every visitor of Šiauliai Region.
