AN EXHIBITION WITH WORKS BY TWO FAMOUS LITHUANIAN AND LATVIAN ARTISTS M.K. ČIURLIONIS AND R. PĒRLE IS OPENED IN RIGA. PAINTING, GRAPHIC, PHOTOGRAPHY

On 14 February paintings, graphic works and photographs, created by the famous Lithuanian artist and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911), from the National Museum of Art in Kaunas, named after him, forming an exposition together with works created by the Latvian artist Rūdolfs Pērle (1875 – 1917) was opened at Art Museum "Riga Bourse" (6 Doma Square, Old Town),  highlighting the trend of symbolism in culture in turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Works by M. K. Čiurlionis cover three major themes— symbolic compositions, seascapes and motives of the ancient Lithuania. The photographs, however, reflect his trip to Caucasia in 1905, the impressions of which he later depicted in his drawings and paintings. Rūdolfs Pērle as a person and as an artist was creative, introvert and bright individual with very impressive creative mind. The essence of his paintings was very close to the Latvian mentality, but nevertheless he chose more universal human themes to prevail in his artworks. The exhibition will be opened for visitors until 23 March, 2014.
