A new Lithuanian Ambassador begins his official duties in Riga

On December 3. 2021, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Latvia Valdas Lastauskas presented credentials to the President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits.

During the bilateral talks with the President of Latvia, the bilateral determination to develop Lithuanian-Latvian relations, work together on relevant EU and NATO issues were demonstrated. Among other questions the implementation of the Rail Baltica project and the synchronization of electricity networks with mainland European networks were discussed.

Ambassador Valdas Lastauskas emphasized Lithuania's desire to strengthen closer cooperation and solidarity with the neighboring country.

The President of Latvia welcomed the new Ambassador and emphasized that Latvia is interested in close relations with Lithuania.

The Ambassador is looking forward to meet the members of the Lithuanian community in Latvia and invites them to work together promoting Lithuania in Latvia.

Lithuania and Latvia re-established diplomatic relations on October 5, 1991.

Ambassador Valdas Lastauskas is the ninth Ambassador to Lithuania in Latvia.
