Foreign Minister Landsbergis met with the representative of Myanmar in New York: “History constantly reminds us that the voice of small countries can also be heard”

In New York, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Zin Mar Aung, the Foreign Minister of Myanmar’s ousted opposition National Unity Government.

“Despite the constant efforts of autocratic forces to prove that truth is on the side of the powerful, the voice of small states in the rules-based international world is heard and thought important. Ukraine’s victory will determine in what world – dominated by brutal force or respect for the rules – we will live soon,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.

The Foreign Minister expressed Lithuania’s support for the aspirations of the people of Myanmar for democracy, human rights and the rule of law and invited Zin Mar Aung to participate in the Future of Democracy Forum in Vilnius.

Myanmar’s military seized power after its coup d'état of 1 February 2021, ousting the country’s government that was democratically elected in 2020.
