Russia’s aggression against Georgia shook the world in August 2008. The war has claimed hundreds of lives, while Russia has seized a part of Georgia’s territory. Thousands of people have become internally displaced persons. They were forced to leave their homes and are not yet able to return.

On 4 May, Aleksandras Stulginskis University and the public institution “African studies and consultations” signed implementation agreements for Lithuania’s bilateral development cooperation projects at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. The two institutions will implement projects in the two countries of Sub-Saharan Africa – Mali and Nigeria.

On 24 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius welcomed participants of the International Conference of Constitutional Courts in Vilnius. The conference, which is financed under the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is dedicated to the enhancing of the role of Constitutional Courts in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in ensuring in ensuring the rule of law.

On 10 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius along with the Ambassador of Sweden to Lithuania Maria Christina Lundqvist and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi met with a group of schoolchildren from the Donetsk region, Ukraine, who participate in the development cooperation project that is co-funded by Lithuania and Sweden.
